This was taken on the way back from our trip to Brian Head, Utah.
My family used to make this trip each year, but this is the first time in about 10 years that we went. That’s mostly due to the fact that my folks moved to Massachussets for several years. They moved back 2 years ago, so we’re gonna try to make it every year now.
On the past trips, I would always pass this spot… intrigued by the lonely shack that you see in the lower left of the photo. I would always say to myself… “that would be a great shot”… but I never stopped and shot it. This is strange to me, mostly because back in those days I was a photo major in college and taking photos was a passion. I don’t know why I never stopped.
This year I told myself, even before we left, that I would stop and shoot this. Our trip out to UT was at night time, so I had to wait until the drive home.
After a 10 year lapse, I still knew the area well enough to know when I would need to pull over to the side of the freeway. My wife and daughter looked at me funny when I slowed to a stop and told them that I wanted to shoot a photo quickly.
The colors came out as vivid as they are in person. I put a little bit of saturation on it in Photoshop, but not too much… just to bring out the green foreground.
